Bio – Karl J. Morris
Karl J. Morris is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area.
He has a background in sales, marketing and technical writing within
the computer/telecommunications and travel industries, and
local involvement within the Dallas international community.
He holds a BS degree in Information Systems from Golden Gate
University in San Francisco and a Graduate Marketing Certificate
from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He has an
entrepreneurial spirit and is a student of life. His corporate
experience includes consulting/contract work with companies
such as AT&T, American Express, Delta Airlines, Efore (USA),
IBM, Nortel Networks, and Verizon in sales, marketing, and
technical writing. He has spent the past two years in event
marketing, working pharmaceutical trade shows for InstaFotos
and working at the AT&T Experience Store at Northpark in Dallas.
Karl has been involved with a number of non-profit organizations.
He is currently a member of the Society for Technical
Communication and president of the Finnish American Society of
Dallas/Fort Worth. He was a founding member and active board
member for five years for the North Texas Global Telecommunication
Society (NTGTS) as director of corporate development and director
of special events. He has been an active board member for nine
years with the North Texas Council of Hostelling International
as past president, treasurer and vice-president. He was an
active board member of the Finnish Independence Day Gala for
two years. He was a past participant of Toastmasters
International for over four years and has the competent
toastmaster and competent leader status. He graduated from the
Dallas Opera’s Distinguished Audiences and Advanced Classes.
He has also been an active member of the 500 Inc., the
International Professional League, and was a past board member
of the International Trade Association of D/FW.
Karl worked part-time for Delta Airlines for five
years to support his traveling bug - usually staying in hostels
or with friends while gallivanting the globe. Having an
affinity for languages, this gave him ample practice. He speaks
Spanish and has visited over 30 countries.
Hobbies include film acting (close to 60 film projects),
writing, and traveling extensively as a tourist
(over 30 countries). He speaks Spanish fairly well and is
currently studying Portuguese and taking a singing class.
He’s very health conscious and has played baseball (hardball)
in a men’s league for a number of years. Karl likes to read
(non-fiction, self-help, health). He also enjoys good movies,
music, and likes to dance. He enjoys the outdoors, usually
taking a trip to the mountains to go hiking once a year. In
addition, he has worked as a personal coach and has spent a
considerable amount of time researching his family tree.
Other interests include listening to classic jazz, spending
time with family and friends, and taking care of his five year
old Basenji-mixed dog, Scholar.
