Trips

I travel in order to learn, rather than someone who has learned and travels to merely confirm what they already know.

Michael Palin

Traveling is no doubt one of my top passions. Though I sometimes travel with company I usually prefer to travel alone. It heightens the adventure. I've seen a lot of places, but there are still a lot of places I want to visit.

Most people say they want to travel and see the world but few do. Seeing the world was one of the things in my life that I made a priority and I’m glad I did. Traveling has helped define who I am as a person. It's the best education you can get and it can’t be gotten any other way. Making local friends and living the local culture is the best.

My traveling philosophy is similar to Rick Steves (travel guru) though I learned about him long after I started traveling. He defines travel as “intensified living". I couldn’t agree more. If you haven’t traveled much or you are open to being a better traveler I highly recommend his video tapes (you can catch him on PBS also). Here’s his website: Rick Steves

Traveling is an adventure. You learn so much about the world and even more about yourself. It forces you to get out of your comfort zone. All your insecurities and preconceived notions are magnified and you are forced to deal with them (that's a good thing - kind of like going to marriage counseling.)

Traveling can change your mindset if you eliminate expectations and enjoy the experience. One tip…plan no more than half your trip…and be spontaneous the other half.
